Originally reviewed for Bookaholic Confessions In Dating the Alphabet we follow restaurant manager Ramona Rawlings on her quest for true love. As soon as I read the synopsis for Dating the Alphabet I was sold on this book. It sounded great and I loved the idea. The restaurant is managed by Ramona and the staff who work there all dress up as well known characters. So you might have Cinderella bringing you your lunch, or Tarzan taking your drinks order complete with loin cloth or even Fat Elvis crooning away whilst you munch on your dinner. This really does make for hilarious reading at times. You quickly get used to it but occasionally it can catch you off guard in the middle of the story and it always made me chuckle. I loved the rapport between everyone who worked at the restaurant too.

Menu Ogham Symbol Ogham is a Celtic alphabet dating back to the fourth century. It is supposed to have originated among the Celtic tribes that migrated from the continent to Britain. The Celtic oracular alphabet is believed to be named for the Celtic God of communication and knowledge, Ogmos who was associated with the Greek Hermes and the Gaulish Ogmios.
The Ogham alphabet consists of twenty characters and each one is assigned a tree that was held sacred by the Druids. Thus, each Ogham letter represents a particular tree and the attribute, feeling or essence that tree symbolizes. All of these simple characters are drawn using one to five angled or straight lines that are incised on a straight vertical or horizontal baseline.
The use of the Ogham alphabet has never been very clear. The ancient Celts were spiritually progressive people who connected intensely with nature. Through the Ogham alphabet, they intertwined their writing system into communion with nature and used it for soulful reflection on the cosmic expressions manifest in the sacred trees. Knowledge of Ogham is thought to have passed down the generations orally until the medieval times.
The Book of Lecan , Book of Ballymote and Book of Leinster 12th century are some medieval manuscripts that record the use of Ogham as an alphabet system. The Ogham letters were usually inscribed on trees, sticks, and stakes. Some have also been discovered in places as far as Portugal and Spain.

The Croats using the Glagolitic alphabet were the only nation in Europe who was given a special permission by Pope Innocent IV in to use their own language and this script in liturgy. More precisely, this permission had formally been given to the bishop Philip of Senj. However, special care accorded by the Vatican to the Glagolitic liturgy in subsequent centuries even by publishing several Glagolitic missals in Rome , shows that this privilege applied to all Croatian lands using the Glagolitic liturgy, mostly along the coast.
As is well known, the Latin had been the privileged language in religious ceremonies in the Catholic Church until the 2nd Vatican Synod held in , when it was decided to allow vernacular national languages to be used in the Catholic liturgy instead of Latin. It is interesting that even today the Glagolitic liturgy is used in some Croatian churches.

The first year of marriage, this worked really well and encouraged us to get out, go to new places, and not stop going on dates just because we were married. The 8th-century Hebrew inscriptions exhibit many specific and exclusive traits, leading modern scholars to conclude that already in the 10th century BCE the Paleo-Hebrew script was used by wide scribal circles.
Even though very few 10th-century Hebrew inscriptions have been found, the quantity of the epigraphic material from the 8th century onward shows the gradual spread of literacy among the people of the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah. In a Phoenician inscription in 22 lines was found among the ruins of Sidon. Each line contained about 40 or 50 characters.
A facsimile copy of the writing was published in United States Magazine in July The inscription was on the lid of a large stone sarcophagus carved in fine Egyptian style. The writing was primarily a genealogical history of a king of Sidon buried in the sarcophagus. Following the exile of the Kingdom of Judah in the 6th century BCE, in the Babylonian exile , Jews began using a form of the Assyrian script , which was another offshoot of the same family of scripts.
During the 3rd century BCE, Jews began to use a stylized, “square” form of the Aramaic alphabet that was used by the Persian Empire which in turn was adopted from the Assyrians , while the Samaritans continued to use a form of the Paleo-Hebrew script, called the Samaritan script.
